Psychological Dimesions of Global Change: A Special Issue of The International Journal of Psychology (Special Issues of the International Journal of Psychology)
Psychological Dimensions of Global Change is a special issue of the International Journal of Psychology which attempts to bridge some gaps between the natural and social/behavioural sciences. The articles deal with the world-wide changes in the earth’s climate, called the greenhouse effect or global warming. These are at the centre of the multi-disciplinary research programs, which explore the causes and likely effects of these fundamental processes. To a large extent, these changes, as currently described and modelled by earth and meteorological sciences, are a direct or indirect result of human action (or human failure to act properly). Furthermore, these global environmental changes are likely to trigger major changes in the living conditions of many living species, including humankind. Human attitudes and motives, human perception and awareness, and human behaviour are potent driving forces and important criteria in the multi-feedbacked system of global environmental change. In this sense the psychology of global change constitutes an important research agenda, both in the actors’ and victims’ sense of these changes.
